The Valentino Resort is located at the same distance from the town centres of the two most important seaside resort towns on the Riviera of the Palms: Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto.

The city has very ancient origins and dates back to the age of the Picentes. The earliest evidence of the existence of the Grottammare Castle comes from the 10th century: its key strategic position led it to be entirely surrounded by defensive walls and monitored by the Torrione della Battaglia (The Battle Tower) during the sixteenth century.
In 1521, the town witnessed the birth of the man who, in 1585, would go on to become Pope Sixtus V. The coastal area only began to develop during the eighteenth century, but another century passed before the nobility began building their villas, including the famous Villino Ravenna, where the great composer Franz Liszt stayed in the year 1868. Villa Laureati, on the other hand, was the scene of yet another historical event: the encounter between Victor Emmanuel II of Italy and the delegation from Naples, which had come to Grottammare to offer the King the crown of the southern provinces.

Art Nouveau style flourished in the town during the early twentieth century, as can be seen by the magnificent villas found in Viale Colombo: today, Grottammare is an internationally renown tourist destination that offers both seasonal initiatives and fixed cultural events, such as the International “Franz Liszt Prize” and the national “Cabaret Amoremio!” competition, which has been held annually since 1983.
The town is also famous for its flowers: thanks to the passion of its nurserymen, palms and oleanders grace every corner of the town, along with a multitude of other tree varieties, including the orange tree, which is the symbol of the city and its climate.

The origins of the city of San Benedetto, one of Italy’s most important fishing ports, have not yet been dated with any degree certainty: it’s referenced in a document from the year 998 and Emperor Frederick II conceded the city of Ascoli the possibility of constructing a fortified port along its seafront in 1245. Surrounding the city’s most famous monument, la Torre dei Gualtieri, the city's history is marked by centuries of incursions on behalf of Turkish pirates, which kept the population away from the coast. These areas were only subsequently settled starting from 1650 and the first fishing villages were later established starting in 1754.

Some of the facilities available to sports lovers include the Marina, the yacht and sailing club, the tennis club, the hockey and skating complex, various bowling alleys and swimming pools, the football and rugby clubhouse and pitches and the track and field facility, which is preferred by many northern European athletic societies for training activities. Young people can choose from a wide variety of leisure and entertainment activities, including discotheques and other localities offering diverse musical styles. Furthermore, each year San Benedetto is frequented by major national artists while on tour. The Ascoli Piceno hinterland is rich with history and is full of marvellous towns: the foremost of which is the provincial capital of Ascoli Piceno, whose historical centre may soon be recognized as a “World Heritage” site by UNESCO.

The “City of a Hundred Towers” is one of Italy’s most monumental cities. It’s famous for its historic town centre, built entirely from travertine, as well as its Piazza del Popolo, a Renaissance masterpiece that stands opposite the famous Palazzo dei Capitani, the Church of St. Francis and the renowned Caffé Meletti.

In Piazza Arringo, on the other hand, visitors can admire the baptistery of St. John (battistero di San Giovanni) and the cathedral dedicated to the city's patron saint, St. Emidio. Other key points of interest include the Romano di Solestà bridge, the roman theatre and Fort Malatesta: the Ventidio Basso Theatre, of neo-classical design, is one of 63 historical theatres found throughout the Marche region and is one of fifteen found within the province of Ascoli Piceno itself.
Due to its artistic and historical significance, the historical centre of Ascoli Piceno currently stands to be nominated as a “World Heritage” site by UNESCO.
